Here’s the information you came looking for! I’ve outlined my services with an explanation of what’s included in each and included my rates so that you have everything you need in order to decide if you feel like I’d be a good fit for you.
Let’s get into it!
I edit using The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition text, and Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary.
I offer line editing, copy editing, and proofreading for children’s picture books, children’s chapter books, and novels.
Note that line editing, copy editing, and proofreading should come AFTER developmental editing. A developmental editor will focus on the story as a whole – the big picture. A DE will help you with plot, character development, setting, pace, narrative, point of view, etc.
After you’ve worked with a developmental editor, you’ll be ready for line editing and copy editing, which is where I come in!
Below, I’ve outlined what each entails in detail (hey, I rhymed!).
Children’s picture books
Editing and proofreading novels
After you reach out to me about editing, I will send you my intake questionnaire to fill out so I can get an idea of where we need to start, and I will provide you with a copy of my How It Words document that explains my process in detail. I will also provide a free 1,000-word sample edit in a Word document in order to determine what services you need—editing and proofreading or just proofreading. This also gives me a chance to see your writing style, and gives you a chance to see my editing style and what kind of feedback you’ll receive from me during editing.
Once we determine what services you need, I’ll tell you what the investment is and send you the service agreement to sign. The initial payment of 50% is due up front, half of the remaining balance is due after editing, and the remaining balance is due upon completion. Other payment plans are available, so don’t hesitate to ask about something that better fits your budget.
Proofreading: $0.008 per word
Editing (line and copy): $0.01 per word
Editing and proofreading: $0.012 to $0.013 per word, depending on word count
These are base prices taking in account word count only. Based on the sample provided and the timeline needed, I will give you a more accurate estimate on the investment.
After the initial edit, I’ll send your manuscript to you with tracked changes, questions, and comments so you can go through it and make your changes, ask questions you have, and answer my questions. When you return your manuscript to me, I’ll do the final proofread to make sure your changes are consistent throughout the text and make sure your manuscript is as error free as possible.
I accept payments from PayPal, Zelle, or Venmo.
Upon signing the contract, 50% of the payment is required in order for editing to begin, 25% is required after editing is done, and the remaining 25% is due after final proofreading, before manuscript is returned.
I’m happy to discuss other payment plans with you as well.
What I Do Not Offer
I do not offer rewriting, co-writing, ghostwriting, fact-checking, researching, or marketing services.
I do not answer questions about publishing, formatting, or marketing. These are not my areas of expertise, and therefore, I cannot confidently answer questions about them. I do, however, have contacts that I can refer authors to that can properly help with the publishing process, whether it be traditional publishing or self-publishing. They provide services such as illustrations, formatting, book designing, cover designing, and more.
If you have any other questions that may not have been discussed on this page, feel free to send me an email and I’d be happy to discuss your project with you and answer any questions you have. 🙂
